Volunteer
The Spokane Langlauf is made possible by dedicated volunteers. Whether you help with registration, course support, timing, aid stations, or the finish area, you'll play an essential role in creating a safe, welcoming, and memorable race experience. All volunteers receive a special thank-you gift, enjoy tasty soup and baked goods donated by our race sponsors, and are entered into a prize raffle after the race!
Roles
Course Marshalls (14 needed)
Role Description
Course marshals stand at trail junctions, cheer for racers and guide them along the course, and keep non-racers off the course. There are typically 2 volunteers per junction, with the exception of Junction 4 which is a water stop and typically has 3+ volunteers. Course marshals must arrive at their assigned junction at least 20 minutes prior to the start of the race. If volunteers choose to skate, they need to take an alternate route (mountain view, larch, lodgepole). Once the final racers and ski patroller pass the junction, volunteers are free to ski back to the lodge.
This is an outdoor position; volunteers need to come prepared for cold/wet conditions. We recommend bringing warm boots to change into or a foam pad to stand on, as well as a warm jacket and snacks.
Check-in time at Selkirk Lodge: 8:30am
Pre-race meeting with Race Director: 8:45am
Deadline to be at assigned junction: 9:40am
Race Start: 10am
Location
Course marshals will be at junctions 1, 2, 3, shadow mountain, junction 4 (water stop), and junction 5. There will also be 2-4 course marshals stationed along the Adaptive skier race course (separate course from regular Langlauf course).
Check-in/Registration (2 needed)
Role Description
Volunteers will assist with racer-check in by finding packets for pre-registered racers. They will also assist with racers registering on race day.
Registration/Check-in volunteers need to arrive at Selkirk Lodge to check in by 7:45am and will finish at 10am (race start).
Optionally, these volunteers can assist with food service after the race.
Skier Service/Food (2 needed)
Role Description
Skier Services volunteers serve food and drinks to racers and volunteers before and after the race. They replenish baked goods and serve cups of soup after the race.

Completion time: 1pm
Set-up/Tear-down (3 needed)
Role Description
Volunteers will arrive at Selkirk Lodge at 9am on the Saturday before Langlauf to help set up the finish line and other aspects of the race course/lodge.
Setup volunteers are also needed to arrive at Selkirk by 8am on race day for final preparations.
Course tear down happens after all racers have finished, usually 12pm.
Parking (4 needed)
Role Description
Parking volunteers need to arrive at Selkirk Lodge at 6:30am. Chris DeForest coordinates the plan for how to run the parking operation. This position will finish by ~9:30 and volunteers can finish slightly earlier if they plan on racing.
Adaptive Course (3 needed)
Role Description
Adaptive Course volunteers will assist in various aspects for our Adaptive Skier race course for Langlauf.
