2008 Langlauf Race Rules |
|
FINAL REMINDERS, RULES AND INFORMATION The Langlauf will start at 11:00 A.M. - Sharp! You should be in position for the start by 10:45. The start is located just above the Selkirk Nordic lodge. The Langlauf is a USSA sanctioned race, open ONLY to registered racers. During the Langlauf, the course will be closed to the public. Only skiers with Langlauf race bibs will be allowed on the course. Spectators are President's Page but we ask your cooperation with the Course Marshals. SEEDING Again this year we are asking all racers to position themselves in one of four start zones based on their finish time in last years Langlauf. Finish times from last year are posted at the lodge and on the bulletin board near the start line. Start zones are designated as Elite, Fast, Sport and Fun and will be marked with the minimum time requirement for those lining up there. If you did not ski last year, you must request admittance to the start zone from the race official, except in the Fun zone. Please cooperate. If you plan to ski with a small child, you must line up in the Fun zone. We do not recommend pulling your child in a sled, but if you do, you must start at the very back and always stay alert to other's ski poles that could injure your child. EXCEPTIONS: Racers having a current USSA competitors license may be allowed to be seeded in the Elite or Fast zone . The top TWO places in last year's age groups have the option to start in the Fast zone. DISQUALIFICATION MAY RESULT FROM ANY OF THE FOLLOWING INFRACTIONS
a. Switching bibs or racing with someone else's number A skier will be considered as skating any time they use a gliding edge of their ski for propulsion. On climbing hills, the skier using the herring bone technique must not allow the skis to glide. When changing lanes, only three skate strides are allowed. In corners with no track setting, skating the turn is allowed. We will not allow abuse of these exceptions. All course marshals and referees are qualified to record offenses. CUT OFF TIME: The Langlauf course will close at 1:00 PM exactly. If you decide not to finish the race, please report to the finish area or let a Langlauf official or a ski patrolman know. Give them your bib number. Skiers not finishing by 1PM and children that are carried or pulled will not be given finish times. INJURIES The Mt. Spokane Ski Patrol will be stationed around the course and near the finish area. Please report any injuries. LOST AND FOUND Located at the registration table in the lodge. PARKING A Sno-park permit with a special grooming sticker is required in both lots. They may be purchased from a park ranger or on line at www.parks.wa.gov/winter . WAXING Skis are not allowed inside the lodge. NO OUTLETS ARE AVAILABLE. For a free application of the "kick wax of the day", visit our SWIX wax tent prior to 10:00 AM PROPER DRESS Often, inexperienced skiers and those who have only ski toured, overdress for a race. If you are comfortably warm waiting at the start, then you are overdressed! Lightweight poly-pro underwear and a lightweight wind breaker or vest work well. If it is very cold or windy an extra layer should be worn. Again this year we are recognizing the traditions of the sport, natural fabrics, wood skis etc. If you are so dressed, please come to the porch side of the Selkirk Lodge between 9:50 and 10:10 for judging. We have prizes for the best "traditionally" dressed - The Woolies Awards. Racers competing for the Woodies Award must declare so at the Woolies judging. REFRESHMENTS ON THE COURSE A sports drink and water will be at junction 2. PRE AND POST RACE REFRESHMENTS Before the race there will be fruit, and Rocket Bakery baked goods. A lunch of home made hot soup by Europa Restaurant and Great Harvest bread will be served from noon till gone. This is for registered racers only, you must present your race bib to be served. POSTRACE AWARDS AND RESULTS Our awards ceremony and prize drawing will start at the Finish Line at 1:15 PM. Door prizes worth over $4,000 will be drawn for racers in attendance. Race results will be posted at the conclusion of the awards and prize drawings. Results may be also obtained by providing a self addressed stamped envelope or purchasing one at the registration table for $1. Results will be posted here as soon as they are made available. SKIERS COURTESIES These are not rules, but safety and courtesy codes.
